This course is an introduction to concepts, theories, models, strategies and practices about the role of communication and media in national and global health and illness and in behaviour change programmes.
• In this course unit you will explore how communication processes (interpersonal communication, news/social media, entertainment & promotions/advertisement) can help shape the public’s perception of health, wellbeing and illness within Kenya’s health communication landscape.
• To invite participants in this course unit to critically examine health communication interventions and emerging ethical issues that may undermine individual autonomy, dignity, self-government & welfare.

Learning outcomes:
On successful completion of this course unit, you will be able to:
a) Discuss range of health communication concepts, theories, models and strategies as tool of dealing with complex role of media and communication in health, illness and behaviour change;
b) Critically examine emerging ethical issues within health communication interventions that may undermine individual and communities’ wellbeing;
c) Work independently and in teams to design health communication projects and research projects.
