Course Content

Electrical power sources: Electric power, Joule’s law, Resistance, current and voltage. Circuits and networks: Passive and active components; capacitors, resistors, inductors. Series and parallel circuits: Ohm’s, and Kirchhoff’s laws, Direct Current (D.C.) circuit analysis, Electric fields and capacitance, Magnetic circuits, Self-inductance, Mutual inductance. Transient analysis of D.C. circuits with resistance, inductance and capacitance (RLC), Step response, rise time, impulse response.  Alternating voltage and current: Sine waves, mean, peak and root mean square (r.m.s.) values. Impedance and admittance. Power in Alternating Current (A.C.) circuits, Analysis of single phase A.C. circuits, power factor, and three-phase A.C.: Analysis of three-phase A.C. circuits. Phasors.
